AS AN EMPLOYER
|
+casual staff are
paid higher than minimum wage, paid tips pro-rata on top and
receive on-going training
+permanent staff are salaried, paid tips pro-rata in addition to their salaries, have use of the pool vehicle, their mobile phone costs met, and in some cases, receive rent support +a permanent place exists for someone with health difficulties and has been occupied continuously since 1997 +the business closes twice a year,in the summer for a staff trip to the seaside, and in the winter for a festive party |
| AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER |
+we work with our fellow traders to sponsor and promote festivals
that attract over 20,000 people to the area each year
+in 2004 we succeeded in organising a class action to defend the safety of the neighbourhood for staff and residents by successfully preventing a 600 person drinking establishment opening in the area. |
| AS A CONSUMER |
+we have acted as a neighbourhood organiser for the re-cycling of cardboard and glass
+no plastics or non-biodegradable products are used in our packaging +energy is saved on the York site by using the by-product of refrigeration as our only fixed heat source, and on the Granada site by using the required food production extraction filter system for air exchange instead of air conditioning +transport is two pool vehicles, one on each site. Staff share their use in lieu of owning their own cars. The one exception is our York senior shift manager who, as an automotive engineer by training, needs his own vehicle to tinker with |
